How to update the BIOS on Toshiba notebooks

    Resolution:

A BIOS update is a relative simple operation and can be carried out by most competent computer users.

Note:
The BIOS files are machine specific. Please take care - you have to use the correct Bios file for your machine

Notebook BIOS update:
Prior to upgrading the BIOS please ensure the following:

  • Notebook is undocked.
  • Notebook is connected to the mains.
  • Notebook must be in boot mode and not resume mode.
  • Remove any connected hardware like PC cards, USB devices...
  • Do not switch off during the BIOS update!

Note: We recommend to print this manual before you start the BIOS update procedure, so it will be available during the update process because you don't have access to your OS during the update process.

There are five different BIOS update processes. Please find detail update information below:


BIOS update process 1:

  1. Download the BIOS from the Toshiba BIOS download section on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp for your Toshiba notebook and make sure to select the version which is corresponding to the operating system your are currently using.
  2. Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
  3. Make sure that all open files are saved and all applications are closed.
  4. Open the temporary folder and check if there is a "BIOS" file (BIOS.bat - Windows Batch File) .
  5. If no, please check the BIOS update process 2, 3, 4 or 5.
  6. If yes, double click on the extracted BIOS.bat (Windows Batch File) file in the temporary folder.



  7. The following Windows appears:



  8. The BIOS update process starts automatically.



  9. When the update process is finished the system will restart automatically.



  10. While Toshiba LOGO screen is displayed, press [F2] key to start BIOS setup menu.
  11. Check Time and date wether they are correct. If not, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
  12. Press [F9] key and choose "Yes" to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [F10] key and choose "Yes" to save the settings.
  13. Update process finished.


BIOS update process 2:

  1. Check the extraction folder if there is a "setup??" Application file (setup??.exe) and a *.rom file.
  2. If no, please check the BIOS update process 3, 4 or 5.
  3. If yes, Execute the extracted *.exe file in the temporary extraction folder.



  4. The following window appears:




    Click on "Start"
    The following window appears:




    The BIOS update process starts automatically.



  5. When the update process is finished the system will shutdown automatically.



  6. Start the notebook, while Toshiba LOGO screen displays, press [F2] key to start BIOS setup menu.
  7. Check time and date wether they are correct. If not, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
  8. Press [F9] key and choose "Yes" to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [F10] key and choose "Yes" to save the settings.
  9. Update process finished.

 
BIOS update process 3:

  1. Extract the downloaded BIOS zip file to a temorary extraction folder you should name e.g. "BIOS" to get sure you will find the extracted BIOS update file. In this new created folder you should find only the extracted BIOS *.exe file.
  2. If no, please check the BIOS update process 1 or 2.
  3. If yes, execute the extracted application (*exe) file in the temporary extraction folder.
  4. The BIOS update process may look different if the update process did not match to the pictures below please check BIOS update process 4.



  5. The following windows appears:



  6. The current BIOS version and the version to install will be displayed.
    Click on "Yes" to proceed.



  7. Read the text and click on "OK" to proceed.



  8. The BIOS update process starts.




  9. When the update process is finished the system will restart automatically.



  10. While Toshiba LOGO screen displays, press [ESC] key to start BIOS setup menu.
  11. Check time and date wether they are correct. If no, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
  12. Press [Home] key and to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [End] key and to save the settings and exit.
  13. Update process finished.


BIOS update process 4:

  1. Extract the downloaded BIOS zip file to a temorary extraction folder you should name e.g. "BIOS" to get sure you will find the extracted BIOS update file. In this new created folder you should find only the extracted BIOS *.exe file.
  2. If no, please check the BIOS update process 1 or 2.
  3. If yes, execute the extracted application (*exe) file in the temporary folder.



  4. The BIOS update process starts automatically.






  5. When the update process is finished the system will shutdown automatically.
  6. Start the notebook, while Toshiba LOGO screen displays, press [F2] key to start BIOS setup menu.
  7. Check time and date wether they are correct. If no, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
  8. Press [F9] key and choose "Yes" to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [F10] key and choose "Yes" to save the settings.
  9. Update process finished.

 

BIOS update process 5:

  1. Extract the downloaded BIOS zip file to a temporary extraction folder you should name e.g. "BIOS" to get sure you will find the extracted BIOS update file. In this new created folder you should find only the extracted BIOS *.exe file.
  2. If no, please check the BIOS update process 1 or 2.
  3. If yes, execute the extracted application (*exe) file in the temporary extraction folder.

  4. The notebook will restart..
    During the shutdown process the BIOS will update automatically.
  5. When the Toshiba LOGO screen displays, press [F2] key to start BIOS setup menu.
  6. Check wether time and date are correct. If not, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
  7. Press [F9] key and choose "Yes" to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [F10] key and choose "Yes" to save the settings.
  8. Update process finished.
