A BIOS update is a relative simple operation and can be carried out by most competent computer users.
Note:
The BIOS files are machine specific so the correct BIOS for your machine must be used.
Notebook BIOS update:
Prior to upgrading the BIOS please ensure the following:
- Notebook is undocked.
- Notebook is connected to the mains.
- Notebook must be in boot mode and not resume mode.
- Remove any connected Hardware like PC Cards, USB devices...
- Do not switch off during the BIOS update!
There are five different BIOS update processes. Please find detail update information below:
BIOS update process 1:
1. Download the BIOS from the Toshiba BIOS download section on http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/SUPPORT_PORTAL/ for your Toshiba notebook and make sure to select the Version which is corresponding to the operating system your are currently using.
2. Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
3. Make sure that all open files are saved and all applications are closed.
4. Change into the temporary folder and check if there is a "BIOS" (Windows Batch File) file (BIOS.bat).
5. If no, please check the BIOS update process 2, 3, 4 or 5.
6. If yes, double click on the extracted BIOS.bat (Windows Batch File) file in the temporary folder.

8. The BIOS update process starts automatically.

9. When the update process is finished the system will restart automatically.

10. While Toshiba LOGO screen is displayed, press [F2] key to start BIOS Setup Menu.
11. Time and date should be checked if they are correct. If no, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
12. Press [F9] key and choose "Yes" to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [F10] key and choose "Yes" to save the settings.
13. Update process finished.
BIOS update process 2:
1. Check in the temporarly folder if there is a "setup??" Application file (setup??.exe) and a *.rom file.
2. If no, please check the BIOS update process 3, 4 or 5.
3. If yes, Execute the extracted *.exe file in the temporary folder.

The BIOS update process starts automatically.

5. When the update process is finished the system will shutdown automatically.

6. Start the notebook, while Toshiba LOGO screen is being displayed, press [F2] key to start BIOS Setup Menu.
7. Time and date should be checked if they are correct. If no, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
8. Press [F9] key and choose "Yes" to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [F10] key and choose "Yes" to save the settings.
9. Update process finished.
BIOS update process 3:
1. Check in the temporarly folder if there is only a "Application" (*.exe ) file.
2. If no, please check the BIOS update process 1 or 2.
3. If yes, Execute the extracted Application (*exe) file in the temporary folder.
4. The BIOS update process could look different if the update process did not match to the pictures below then check BIOS update process 4.

5. The following Windows appears:

6. The current BIOS version and the version to install will be displayed.
Click on "Yes" to proceed.

7. Read the text and click on "OK" to proceed.

8. The BIOS update process starts.

9. When the update process is finished the system will restart automatically.

10. While Toshiba LOGO screen is being displayed, press [ESC] key to start BIOS Setup Menu.
11. Time and date should be checked if they are correct. If no, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
12. Press [Home] key and to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [End] key and to save the settings and exit.
13. Update process finished.
BIOS update process 4:
1. Check in the temporarly folder if there is only a "Application" (*.exe ) file.
2. If no, please check the BIOS update process 1 or 2.
3. If yes, Execute the extracted Application (*exe) file in the temporary folder.

4. The BIOS update process starts automatically.


5. When the update process is finished the system will shutdown automatically.
6. Start the notebook, while Toshiba LOGO screen is being displayed, press [F2] key to start BIOS Setup Menu.
7. Time and date should be checked if they are correct. If no, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
8. Press [F9] key and choose "Yes" to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [F10] key and choose "Yes" to save the settings.
9. Update process finished.
BIOS update process 5:
1. Check in the temporarly folder if there is only a "Application" (*.exe ) file.
2. If no, please check the BIOS update process 1 or 2.
3. If yes, Execute the extracted Application (*exe) file in the temporary folder.

4. The notebook will be restarted.
During the shutdown process the BIOS will updated automatically.
5. When the Toshiba LOGO screen is being displayed, press [F2] key to start BIOS Setup Menu.
6. Time and date should be checked if they are correct. If no, they should be adjusted to the correct values.
7. Press [F9] key and choose "Yes" to set the BIOS to default settings. Press [F10] key and choose "Yes" to save the settings.
8. Update process finished.
