Wireless Lan connection issues on Satellite P300 or Satellite Pro P300

    Issue:

Issue A (INTEL WLAN card):
A wireless lan card from Intel is included in the Satellite P300 or Satelltie Pro P300:
After updating the BIOS to version 1.80 the notebook does not find any access points or cannot establish a connection under Windows XP.

Issue B (Atheros WLAN card):
A wireless lan card from Atheros is included in the Satellite P300 or Satellite Pro P300:
The Wireless Lan transfer speed is very low under Windows XP and Windows Vista 32bit.



    Summary:

Issue A (INTEL WLAN card):
Please update the BIOS to version 3.00 or higher only (OS independent).


Issue B (Atheros WLAN card):

  1. Windows Vista 32: Please update the BIOS to V3.00 or higher and update the Atheros Wireless lan driver to V7.6.0.164.1 or higher.
    To get best connection speed both BIOS and Atheros driver must be updated!
  2. Windows XP and Windows Vista 64: Please update the BIOS to V3.00 or higher only.

By downloading the BIOS from our website a combine tool will be offered which contains the latest BIOS and the updated Atheros WiFi driver.
During installation it will automatically detected which wireless lan card is in the notebook and which operating system is installed, the BIOS and if necessary the Atheros driver will be installed.



    Resolution:

Issue A (INTEL WLAN card):
Please update the BIOS to version 3.00 or higher only (OS independent).

Issue B (Atheros WLAN card):

  1. Windows Vista 32: Please update the BIOS to V3.00 or higher and update the Atheros Wireless lan driver to V7.6.0.164.1 or higher.
    To get best connection speed both BIOS and Atheros driver must be updated!
  2. Windows XP and Windows Vista 64: Please update the BIOS to V3.00 or higher only.

How to update the BIOS and if needed, the Atheros driver:

  1. Download the combine tool from our BIOS download website.  Choose BIOS version 3.00 or higher.
  2. Unzip the download file to a temporary folder.
  3. Change into the "update" sub folder in the temporary folder.
  4. Run "Update.exe" with administrator rights
  5. This program will check OS version and WLAN type to decide driver updating or not.
    a) For Windows XP image: Update BIOS only
    b) For Windows Vista 32 image with Atheros WLAN: Update WLAN driver and then update BIOS
    c) For Windows Vista 32 image with Intel WLAN: Update BIOS only
    d) For Windows Vista 64 image: Update BIOS only
  6. BIOS and if needed the WLAN driver are automatically updated and the system will restart automatically.
  7. While Toshiba LOGO screen is being displayed, press [F2] key to start BIOS Setup Menu.
  8. Press [F9] key to set default BIOS setting and choose "Yes". Press [F10] key and choose "Yes" to save the settings.
  9. BIOS and WLAN driver update will be completed.
